Application for a Preliminary Injunction!
by David Stanowski
19 February 2014
Today, all is now revealed! Everyone can finally see the culmination of five years worth of work.
The GOGP layed out its entire case in its "Application for a Preliminary Injunction" filed late Monday. This is a formal legal request that asks the judge to stop the GHA from implementing their rebuilding plan due to numerous violations of the law.
Please take a few minutes to browse our list of 44 exhibits that contain 1,900 pages of evidence (see pic below) supporting our case before reading the Application. Many of the exhibits have not been revealed before today.
In addition to the extraordinary work done by Dr. Kirk McClure (Exhibits 11 and 12), that most people in the City have already seen, please note the powerful study done by Professor John A. Powell (Exhibit 10), one the nation's most prominent experts on fair housing. He was one of the key witnesses in the Thompson v. HUD case that we have used for guidance for the past five years.
Dr. Kerry Emanuel, Professor of Atmospheric Studies at MIT, gives his sobering opinion on the wisdom of building public housing on Galveston Island (Exhibit 13).
We also have affidavits from five prominent Galvestonians.
Other experts speaking directly to our case are represented in Exhibits 5A, 5B, 5C, and 17.
Some experts address fair housing in general in Exhibits 7, 8, 28, 29, 30, 31 and 32.
This is what we delivered to the judge, yesterday.
